Good Day STYC Members,
Last week marked the end of the Gossling's IC 24 Summer Series. Special thanks to Jon Charlton for the sponsorship and Ched Sharpless and the Galley team for a great series ending awards party. The series saw fantastic participation as well as competitive racing. Going into the last night 2nd and 3rd places were separated by only six points. In the end the top three were
- Mike Williams / Skip King
- Chris Sharpless
- Chuck Pessler
STYC sailors are still in full swing during the busy summer season State side.
The USVI Para Olympic team of Jan Robinson (Founder/Manager), John Foster (Founder/Couch), Dave Flaherty (Skipper), Jim Kerr (Crew), Bob Blackwell (Crew), Tony Sanpere (Crew) and Bill Canfield (Crew)
finished 3rd in the Sonar class at the North American Challenge Cup. In 1992 the Chicago Yacht Club created the North American Challenge Cup as a major disabled sailing regatta, bringing together disabled sailors from around the country. This event counts as one of the longest running events in the North American disabled sailing circuit. The NACC has a reputation for outstanding competition on a national and international level.
Please come out to the wine tasting party tomorrow at 6 PM and help the team raise money for Olympic campaign.
John Holmberg and Teri McKenna are sailing at the Hobie 20 North Americans in Avila Beach CA. At last check they were winning and looked like the team to beat.
In Jr. Sailing news Sam Morrell won the US Jr. Single handed championships, The Smythe Trophy, held in Osterville, MA at the Wianno Yacht Club.
Graceann Nicolosi crewed for Mark Davies of the Chicago YC in the US Jr. Double handed championship as well. They finished 3rd in the Bemis. Awesome. Click (here) for the full story.
