What a great week one!
After a rainy morning our Saturday sailing went off without a hitch. We are always excited to see new faces in our learn to sail program.
Next weekend the Opti race team is off to the BVI. Thanks to Teddy Nicolosi for helping get this group some great training before they go!
Have you registered for Columbus Day?

We are excited about a great fall session!
We are at the end of our spring session and it was amazing! The addition of the Hobie Wave fleet has truly added a family sailing element that we are thrilled about! Just because class is over....don't stop sailing! Please take advantage of the summer months to enjoy the water with your kids.
In the news.....
After Nikki Barns won the A division at College Women's Nationals, Ian Barrows and the team from Yale went on to win the Team Race National! In the final event of the college season, the Fleet Race National, Ian won the A division and Nikki won the B division! Alec Taylor, and the up and coming Fordham team earned the grit award at the national as well. They sail for different schools...but all came from our tiny club! We are cheering loud in the VI.
Are you following the WMRT? There was some great racing last weekend in Newport. Taylor Canfield, and US One came out on top at the third consecutive tour event! check it out: http://wmrt.com/
We all have our eyes on the summer in Rio! We will pass along the info as we get it!
1. The IOR starts next weekend! If you have a first time IOR sailor PLEASE use this week to help your sailor get organized. The STYC will EXPLODE next weekend with OVER 100 OPTI SAILORS. Please stop by and check it out!
2. Summer Camp! It is time! Please take a look at the calendar.
There is a lot going on at the club in the next few months! Please come down and enjoy!
Have you seen this? Nikki Barns and the team from the Coast Guard Academy, win the college woman's national fleet race finals. Check out the article here:
We are incredible proud of Nikki's hard work, dedication, and true sportsmanship! Keep an eye on the co-ed fleet race finals this week. Nikki will be back at it battling it out with the best.
If you aren't following the college nationals....... you can find results here: http://scores.collegesailing.org/
Tomorrow is the final day of the Team Race National. Looking good for STYC sailor Ian Barrows and the team from Yale. On Wednesday, the co-ed semifinals begin! Lots of great race to see!
The Antilles Team is back from HS Nationals with a 4th place finish. With 20+ breeze on the first day the sailors were postponed twice before they actually started racing. With the big breeze the team ended day one 4-1 in second place! On Sunday, racing was postponed again....but this time due to lack of breeze! The lighter air proved challenging and with a few loses Antilles finished the event in a tie for 4th. We are extremely proud of this team and wish our graduating seniors the best of luck next year.
We are in the last week of our spring session! Then we are on to the IOR and Summer Camp!
Our opti sailors will head off to Worlds in June as well.
Notes for the week:
1. Please help your sailor to reorganize their gear and help keep the sail room clean.
2. Have you volunteered for IOR yet? This is a great way to hang out with the sailors and support the club and the events we host. We would love your help!
3. Please be thinking about what events and training options would fit best for your sailor next year. I have attached a "worksheet" to help you get started. These are JUST IDEAS. We encourage you to share your thinking with you coaches as well. This worksheet is geared toward SAILORS MOVING INTO GREEN FLEET through POST OPTI COMPETITIVE SAILORS (420/other) If your sailor does not fit into these spaces but you are looking for more opportunity for them on the water, please feel free to make comments and send it back to us.
See you at the club!
Congratulations to the STYC sailors on the AMAZING weekend in Tortola! In the green fleet, Tanner Krysvgeld finished the weekend with 6 bullets in 15 races and finished first overall. Andy Yu, Alejo DiBlasi, Robert Richards, Cruz Lonski, and ZZ Thomas were not far behind. STYC sailors were 6 of the top 9 finishers in a 30 boat fleet!
On the championship line Mia & Rayne battled it out at the top. In 15 races, the two traded first place finishes with Mia ending the event ahead by 1 point! This is a great event for our sailors to work on their personal sailing goals. Congratulations STYC! You can fin full results here: http://www.regattanetwork.com/event/11807#_newsroom+results
Back at home....The duck derby was a huge hit! Thank you to everyone that supported the team. The high school sailors leave for Nationals this Wednesday. Wish them luck if you see them!
We are in the last weeks of sailing before the IOR and summer! Please take advantage of the Hobie Waves and get out on the water!
Our opti teams are gearing up for the BVI dinghy champs next weekend. Wish them luck in the final leg of the VIODA triple crown!
We had our first calendar meeting last week and we are off to a good start. There are a lot of moving parts and we will continue to work on the details. We are looking for feedback from all families interested in competing next year. Even if your sailor has never been to an event but you know they are looking to get started, please be in touch so we can talk possible schedules.
Volunteers! The STYC Board of Governors would like to thank everyone that helps to make the STYC great! Please stop by the club on Saturday May 21st @ 4 for drinks, snacks, and great friends!
Ducks on Sunday! The ducks will race 1 week from today. Their training is intense. This is a great family day at the club with games and activities for the kids. Please pass it on!

Happy Mother's days to all the (opti, 420, laser, ....) moms out there!
The Opti race team was in FULL EFFECT this weekend! We are thrilled to see so many boats on the water! What a great weekend of training!
The BVI dinghy champs are just around the corner! Don't forget to register.
Shameless plug for the Antilles high School Sailing Team.....
Ducks are on SALE! Mark your calendar for Sunday May 22nd from 12-4. The STYC will be filled with crafts and games for the kids! We have TWO great DUCK RACES that start at 3:00. The corporate and family duck race has been a huge success. You can adopt a giant duck and "duckorate" it with the family. These great looking ducks are a hard act to follow but the "racing ducks" have been training and are ready for the challenge. Over 2000 ducks compete, and the owner of the winning duck ticket receives $1000 in cash while the top 10 ducks all earn great prizes including gift certificates to local restaurants and a great sport watch! You can purchase ducks from any member of the sailing team or by replying to this email. Ducks have sold out for the past 4 years! We hope you can join the team for this great day and support the Hurricanes as they head to Nationals! Check out Friends of Antilles Sailing on Facebook for last years photos! https://www.facebook.com/Friends-of-Antilles-Sailing-Team-134595094886/
On a more somber note, we have had several instances of "mischief" in the girls bathroom over the last week. Bags and belongings have been rifled through, phones found in other bags, and a general invasion of privacy. We are keeping a close watch and ask that all our families discuss respecting others personal property with their sailors as well.
The next few weeks are crazy busy at the STYC! Hope to see you out racing Hobie Waves on Thursday or taking the family to Christmas Cove for a Saturday afternoon snorkel. Don't forget, IC24 racing stated LAST FRIDAY! There is a sign up sheet in the bar.
We hope to see you at the club and on the water.
Between carnival and some crazy rain it was a quiet weekend at the STYC. The opti race and green team got in some great practice time while our youngest sailors worked on land while the crazy squalls blew through!
We are thrilled to hear that the Antilles High School team came out on top at the weekend's SAISA Team Race Qualifier. Sailors Thomas Walden '16, Colin Brego '16, Sam Morrell '17, Teddy Nicolosi '19, Paige Clarke '16, Amanda Engeman '16, Reid McHenry '16 and Graceann Nicolosi '16 fought for every win and the Hurricanes finished the event 14-3. They are headed to the Baker National in Washington at the end of May.
